Suki, not coincidentally named after the fiery vampire lady who plays the lead role in the popular TV series ‘True Blood’, is a special case. With her medium fawn colour and paler belly, nose and paws, she looks very much like a vicuña, the ancestor of the alpaca that still lives in the wild in the Andes.

To call Suki a bit stubborn is an understatement. She is constantly nervous and excited and will be the first to spit and kick at the other alpacas (and anyone else that’s too close to her backside…) if there is food around. But thanks to her ‘alertness’, she is also the living security system on our farm: nothing that happens in and around the pasture escapes her, and she will always be the first to raise the alarm in case of ‘danger’ – such as a strange cat passing by.
